Every big comic book movie must, must, involve lots of casting speculation.

With 20th Century Fox hoping to have its Fantastic Four reboot in production early next year, it's time for a shortlist of actors and actresses set to test for the roles of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl.

Since X-Men: Days of Future Past wrapped up principal photography, the stream of news and images on the prequel-sequel has lessened to a trickle.

Luckily, the young Professor Xavier himself, James McAvoy, is talking about his second round of mutant action, promising very big things from X-Men: Days of Future Past and revealing that he does, in fact, share a scene with his older counterpart Patrick Stewart.

Writing Trio Set for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3'

Wednesday, 02 October 2013 10:03

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is still seven months away, but with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 already set for June 10, 2016, Sony Pictures is putting three writers to work on the third installment.

And it seems the studio must be happy with how the upcoming sequel is turning out, because Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner are all returning for the rebooted Spidey's third swing.

Sony Pictures has revealed a crop of new images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, images from in front of the cameras and behind the scenes of the wall-crawler's next adventure.

There's plenty of interesting stuff on display in these pictures, but it's actually the most mundane of them that ends up being the most exciting, because it implicitly acknowledges the consistent rumor that the Amazing Spider-Man series is building towards a confrontation between Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man and the Sinister Six.

Director and prolific tweeter Bryan Singer has kept audiences updated with many a peek behind the curtain at X-Men: Days of Future Past, and an effective viral campaign has teased the Sentinels plentifully.

But today we have something a little different: an actual promotional image from the prequel sequel uniting two generations of onscreen X-Men as Hugh Jackman, Jame McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult convene in a slick hallway that we haven't seen since X-Men: The Last Stand.

The latest image from next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn't reveal any major story elements or feature Spidey battling supervillains.

Instead, it puts Andrew Garfield and Dane DeHaan right in the middle of Oscorp, once again indicating that the tech company will be central to the rebooted world of Peter Parker.

Mutants beware!  The Sentinels have arrived and they're not messing around.

After Comic-Con and a well-realized viral site offered up partial glimpses at the mutant-hunting Sentinels of X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer has gone ahead and revealed a detailed, full-body image of a Sentinel that isn't even a digital effect.

The Sentinels walk among us and we can totally tell because they're eighteen feet tall.

An X-Men: Days of Future Past viral marketing effort kicked off at Comic-Con, introducing Trask Industries and a Sentinel's head to passersby in San Diego.  Now, the online home of that viral effort has pulled back the curtain on the fictitious history of the Sentinels, showing off fuller looks at the machines, Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask.

Over the last thirteen years, superheroes and their comic book kin have taken over blockbuster cinema.

While innumerable other heroes have been rebooted, prequelized, or otherwise recast, one man has stayed constant.  One man has endured.  Hugh Jackman is the last man standing of the comic book movie explosion.  He proves it this Friday with The Wolverine, the latest adventure of Marvel's least-merry, most-mutton-chopped mutant.

With The Wolverine, the Oscar-nominated Australian actors plays the mysterious loner Logan for the sixth time.  This sixth turn is a standalone story for Logan, a tale that whittles down the mutant cast to instead focus squarely on the man with the adamantium claws and a mutant healing factor that makes him functionally immortal.  Thematically, Logan's struggles with his agelessness fits in snugly with Jackman's long tenure as the character.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick attended a special press conference for The Wolverine last weekend at San Diego Comic-Con International 2013 before the film's Hall H panel. Actor Hugh Jackman was on hand to share his thoughts on the eponymous anti-hero's thematic journey, as well as his snikt-filled history with Logan, setting the new film in Japan, the appeal of not-so-nice heroes, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and his future with the franchise.
